Mini Grey's "The Very Smart Pea and the Princess-To-Be" --Fractured Fairy Tales! Lesson Plan

$12.00

It’s time for some Fractured Fairy Tale Fun! Fractured Fairy Tales are a fantastic way to teach writing, and I often use them as the introductory lesson to one of my longer Creative Writing Workshops. Fairy tales are familiar, and “Once Upon A Time” is a great story starter for reluctant writers. Add the original ideas included in this lesson plan--and you have the basis for some writing magic!

The following are just some of the questions you can pose to your students to generate writing through this lesson plan: Have you ever wondered what would happen if fairy tale characters received endorsement deals for products--like celebrities do? For example, what if Little Red Riding Hood had the chance to promote hoodies for THE GAP? (Who better!) Or, what if Hansel and Gretel were the ‘celebrity duo’ in charge of promoting the Garmin GPS? (Sure beats using breadcrumbs as a navigation system!) These and other silly ideas are at the heart of this Fearless Dragon Writers’ writing lesson. Inside these pages, you will find the ‘secret sauce’ to a FUN and CREATIVE writing lesson that can inspire children (ages 8 – 13), whether they enter your classroom as eager writers or reluctant writers.

In this Fearless Dragon Writers, LLC Lesson Plan (created by writer and writing teacher Andrea Felcone), you will find a FULLY SCRIPTED lesson plan to teach a FUN Fractured Fairy Tale lesson based on Mini Grey’s “The Very Smart Pea and the Princess-To-Be!” Students will learn about Perspective and Personification and be inspired to write their very own Fractured Fairy Tale! The Writing Worksheet contains several writing choices for students to create traditional stories, comic strip storyboards, or advertisements (using fairy tale characters to “pitch” products). They can stick with the "Princess and the Pea" or venture out into any fairyland setting that inspires them! There is no limit to the fun they can have choosing interesting objects—green veggies or otherwise—to personify!

This lesson plan contains—19 pages of tested content—including Teaching Tips, Techniques, and a Writing Worksheet (filled with humorous and thoughtful writing prompts) to inspire student writers—even reluctant writers! Writing Concepts covered: Fractured Fairy Tales, Perspective, and Personification. (This lesson was designed for 8 - 13-year-olds. There is content here to teach for 90 minutes. You can edit to fit your class length as needed.)
