These materials are at the heart of my Judi Barrett/"Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" LESSON PLAN for this beloved children's book. You can use these materials in a number of ways, but I like to use them this way....
* Start with a READ ALOUD of "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs" (by Judi Barrett, Illustrations by Ron Barrett).
* Then TEACH a lesson on 'SETTINGS and/or HYPERBOLE'. (This Worksheet includes both!) You can make it easy on yourself and use my FULL LESSON PLAN (also on this website) if you like. It is FULLY SCRIPTED and contains enough material for 1.5 hours of teaching. (Trim it as you see fit.)
*Then DISTRIBUTE and READ ALOUD this Printable WRITING WORKSHEET—designed to inspire writing. There are prompts for children who love food, weather, tall tales, etc. Students are encouraged to write traditional stories, diary entries, or even movie scripts! Have your students select their favorite Writing Choice from the Writing Worksheet!
*Allow at least 20 minutes of student WRITING TIME. Then allow at least 20 minutes for SHARING TIME as the children read their work aloud in a supportive environment.
